Exquisite and Antique Look Shirazi Chest for Storage of Valuables

History of chest – initially these chest were made in India and used as Dhow trade chest on ships for transporting spices like paper ,cardamom and cloves, gemstones, expensive embroidered fabric, et cetera. Later on the Arab world started using these chests as dowry gift chest for their daughters during her marriage for carrying her wedding gifts to her new house. It is during this time these chests became more ornate and decorative and symbol of status of the brides family.

Shirazi chest – Shirazi chest is the most celebrated and ornate chests in the history of chests. Shirazi chests were exported to Shiraz town of Iran from India. The name Shirazi comes from the town of Iran, where they were exported and not made.

The present chest is patterned on Shirazi chest .This chest is made up of highly priced kerala rosewood . The original chest without ornamentation is very old and estimated to be more than hundred years. The old chest is modelled on Shirazi chest and all the Brass Work is new. The chest is decorated with Brass studs and brass plates cut into geometrical pattern. The brass plates have elaborated work on it. The quality of the Brass Work is more elaborate and fine than the present antique Shirazi chests available in various museums of the world. The chest has beautiful side handles, hinges, and hasp .The chest has three drawers to store valuable. Also it have has a small compartment inside the chest store, smaller things.

The size of chest is – length 44 inches, depth 19.75 inches and height is 19.25 inches. This chest is unusually large and made up of single planks of Rosewood without any joint, which is very rare. The chest is polished with natural, Laqure . The cutting of Brass sheet work is done by hand, and even the punching design on the brush sheets pieces is done by hand .This unusually large and heavily decorated chest can be used as center piece of drawing room or storing Linen.
